Cultural relativism, lampooned.
Relevant– I had an argument recently with my flatmate about Stargate. He thought it was wrong to kill Jaffa warriors in order to stop the goa’uld because, in his view, slavery might be “right for their culture,” and human lives could not rightly be expended to change that way of life. For my part I said that life as a slave is hardly life at all, and a war that frees the many is worth the lives of the few.
The lesson here is that I have become the guy who has deep philosophical arguments with his flatmate about ten-year-old television shows, and I love Reptilis Rex. This is free market segmentation, ladies and gentlemen.
As a rule, I generally find that anyone arguing FOR slavery (fictional or otherwise) is probably kind of an asshole. Your mileage may vary! But not much.
